I’ll be completely honest, as much as I love mythology from every culture, this was not a story I remembered a lot of.
Vipers and Virtuosos is a modern retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice. I still haven’t read Promises and Pomegranates yet, but it is on my list. In my defense, I was looking at like seven different books at the time. However, because I’m sometimes every bit the blonde I was born, despite my current hair color, I downloaded Vipers and Virtuosos before I downloaded the right one. I’d seen it on BookTok, and pretty much everywhere in the reading groups I’m part of on the book of faces. It’s also available on Amazon in paperback and hardback.) Anyway, so I wanted to read that. I’m super behind on Lore Olympus right now (And if you haven’t checked that out on WebToon then you should. I was still a little mad at him at the end of Promises and Pomegranates, but seeing him take on such a familial role with Riley made me love him even more.So I wanted to read Promises and Pomegranates by Sav R Miller, because I love all things Hades and Persephone. It was great to see so much of Kal in this book as well. What he did to her lotion had me both disgusted and laughing. There might be something wrong with me but I loved how Aiden’s obsession with Riley turned him into a stalker who surrounded himself with reminders of her, like always having a supply of peppermints on hand because the smell reminded him of her. I love how she struggled with her attraction to him. But I was proud of her for trying survive on her own by reaching out to Kal and asking for help.
My heart broke for her because she just felt so broken and invisible. Riley survived some pretty serious trauma both physically and emotionally and has the scars to prove it. Aidan is determined to find his mystery date and get his revenge but the chemistry between them is too strong to ignore. Because of events in her past and a new threat, Riley leaves her life behind hoping for a fresh start. The next day she is shocked to learn that someone claiming to be her, said she was sexually assaulted by Aiden. The evening ends abruptly after they share an intimate moment that spooks Riley. The two of them have a pretty amazing evening including life changing bagels and tattoos where she refuses to tell him her name.
While on a school trip Riley meets her former celebrity crush Aiden at a charity event. This was so much more than your typical rockstar dark romance.
